IT Carlow’s two campuses, at Carlow and Wexford, are ever-evolving as we respond to the needs of our flourishing student body.
We are three-quarters of the way into a €150 million capital development programme that has already delivered our Centre for Aerospace Engineering, the Dargan Centre for Research and Innovation, a multi-million euro Student Services and Sports Facilities Centre, and the Haughton Centre for Teaching and Learning.
Work is nearing completion on our 30-acre South Sports Campus while a new Campus Northern Quarter is under development that will deliver the new Advanced Science and Technology Building, boasting first-class facilities.
IT Carlow Campus
Our Carlow campus stretches to 70 acres, on which everything is at hand for students to enjoy college life to the max.
The campus offers a wonderful mix of restful green spaces and first-class facilities, including: our Centre for Aerospace Studies; Central Services Building; Barrow Centre, Haughton Building; Dargan Research Centre; TV and radio studios; games development suite; library and engineering labs, amongst others.
Our outside spaces include a running track and rugby, football and soccer pitches, including a full-sized, flood-lit 4G soccer pitch. New capital projects under development include the South Sports Campus and Campus Northern Quarter.
Our primary campus is located in Carlow town, situated in a hinterland of beautiful villages and towns. With its central location in the southeast, many IT Carlow students come from the surrounding counties of Wexford, Kilkenny, Laois, Kildare and Wicklow. The Institute is convenient to other locations and Dublin city is just 85km away.
The Institute campus is a short walk into Carlow town, which has a population of just over 24,000. Here, student accommodation is plentiful and the town offers a superb range of eateries, bars, cinema and nightlife. Our students love the relaxed and friendly vibe around the town, which adds to their college experience.
IT Carlow Wexford Campus lies in close proximity to coastal Wexford town and is only a few minutes’ walk from Main Street, with its abundance of restaurants, cafés and bars. The campus is warm and welcoming, with a great sense of community between staff and students from all disciplines. With a choice of quality accommodation, excellent transport and great nightlife, Wexford town has it all.
Modern computing and library facilities are on-site and students also have access to the software and databases at Carlow campus. This infrastructure, together with the small class sizes in Wexford, create an excellent learning environment for students to reach their full potential.
South Sports Campus
We are nearing completion of our new €15million, 31-acre South Sports Campus.
Situated 1km from the Institute’s main campus on the Kilkenny Road in Carlow town, South Sports Campus will consolidate IT Carlow’s position as one of Ireland’s leading third-level institutes for the provision of sport and physical activity.
South Sports Campus will deliver six full-size playing pitches, comprising one all- weather artificial GAA pitch, one grass GAA pitch, two grass soccer pitches and two grass rugby pitches. The project will also include LED floodlighting, a 1.6km looped walking trail, a 400m athletics track and a pavilion building, to include changing rooms, meeting rooms and ancillary spaces.
Campus Northern Quarter
Campus Northern Quarter is the next phase of IT Carlow’s €150 million capital investment programme. It will be home to our 6,043M² Advanced Science and Technology Building, boasting 30 laboratories, a 40m Indoor Assessment Sprint Track and Altitude Chamber.
In parallel, a new Corporate Support Services Building will comprise administrative departments, a 180-seat restaurant and café, and an atrium exhibition space. Outside, a public plaza will sit alongside 200 new parking spaces.
